Years 3 and 4

Autumn 1 2025

Year 3 and 4 children have been enjoying finding out about why the Romans were successful in invading Britain. They have found out about life in the Roman army and why the army was efficient. They have made shields and learnt how to march and make tortoise formations to defend themselves from the enemy.

The children have imagined what life was like as a Roman soldier and have written a postcard back to Rome persuading their friend to join the army.
In addition, they have learnt about the warrior Queen Boudicca and how she fought against the Romans. This has produced some excellent descriptive writing!

After having listened to the story called The Roman Beanfeast, the children were inspired to create projects of their own. These were displayed during the Roman day at the end of term. The children enjoyed having a Roman feast too.

Year 4 children have made a wonderful start to learning to play a brass instrument. They will be performing in an end of year concert during the summer term.

In science, the children have enjoyed learning about sound and finding out about how sounds are made, as well as changing the volume and pitch.
