School Council
Everyone in KS2 has the chance to be a school councillor. At the beginning of the new school year, children are invited to prepare and present a speech to the rest of the class as to why they would make a good councillor. A vote is then carried out. This teaches the children about the role and value of democracy in society.
The council meets regularly and collects the opinions and thoughts from their peers regarding ideas as to how to improve school life and to discuss any problematic issues.
Recently, the children have organised the yearly Christmas Talent Show, held a second-hand book sale, organised the Easter Egg decorating competition and been involved in the interviewing process for new school staff.
In addition, many pupils have been asking for playground equipment to use at playtimes. Last year, the school councillors participated in discussions which resulted in the new trim trail being purchased by the generous funding raised from The Friends of Brownlow. It is proving to be extremely popular and well-used!
Another very successful initiative has been the opportunity for pupils to wear their own clothes on their birthday!
This year, the children are keen to play an active role in the school discos. They have been discussing enabling school dinner children and packed lunch children to sit together. They are keen to set up draughts, chess, computer and origami clubs, plus supporting the idea of more children accessing the Forest School and pond area both in learning time and as a club.
