Years 5 and 6 2026-2027
Year 5/6 Autumn Term One
Year 5/6 have had a busy and exciting half term filled with learning across the curriculum. Here is a sample of some of the aspects they have been studying.
In History and English, we have explored the life and death of Richard III. The children learned about his rise to power and the events leading to the Battle of Bosworth. Linked to this topic, they produced a range of wonderful writing, including a battle description, a biography of Richard III, a podcast script featuring the Ghost of Richard III, a playscript and a persuasive speech written as Henry Tudor rallying his troops before battle.

In Science, we have investigated forces through a variety of practical activities. The children designed and tested parachutes to explore air resistance and used water tubes to investigate water resistance. They developed their skills in predicting, observing and drawing conclusions from their results.

In Mathematics, we focused on place value before moving on to addition and subtraction. The children have worked hard to develop their fluency and reasoning skills, culminating in learning about squared and cubed numbers.

In PE, we have enjoyed developing our basketball skills, learning how to dribble, pass, shoot and work effectively as a team.
In RE, the children have been introduced to the Five Pillars of Islam, gaining an understanding of their importance to Muslims around the world.
In Music, the children have enjoyed composing their own ditties, experimenting with rhythm and melody to create original pieces.
In French, we have focused on numbers and weather vocabulary, helping the children grow in confidence when speaking and understanding the language.
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, effort and resilience shown by the children this term and look forward to another successful term ahead.
