The Willows Specialist Provision
Our Specialist Provision at Brownlow is called The Willows.
The Willows provides a calm and nurturing environment for EYFS children to develop and learn. We understand that every child is unique and we create meaningful learning opportunities to support each child to reach their full potential. We follow the Brownlow EYFS curriculum and adapt this to provide multi-sensory approaches to respond to children’s individual needs and interests.
Children who attend The Willows have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) which identifies their primary area of need as Cognition and Learning or Communication and Interaction.
Our provision offers a high level of visual structure to support children’s communication and interaction difficulties, opportunities for children to learn within the mainstream environment (where appropriate), high staff to child ratio with staff who are skilled in Special Educational Needs, individualised learning programmes and interventions and a sensory room to support children’s sensory needs and emotional regulation.
We know how important your child’s first experience is at school. It is our aim to work closely with families to ensure a smooth transition to The Willows and for each child to feel happy, safe and a sense of belonging.

Summer Term 1
This half term we have loved taking part in lots of activities about animals. We have read some exciting stories in our sensory story sessions – we especially loved Brown Bear, Brown Bear! We have also continued our Core Word programme and have started to use the interactive whiteboard to trace over the letters in the words. Our favourite word has been ‘help’ where we worked together to help some poorly cuddly toys.
In our Maths sessions we have been choosing and singing number and shape songs and have introduced Numicon. We love looking at the colours, counting the holes together and matching identical numicon shapes.
There is always lots of excitement during our Bucket Time sessions and this term we been attending to stage 1 and stage 2. Our favourites are definitely flour sprinkle and cake splat!
We have also enjoyed our PE sessions with Mr J. We really look forward to these and are now familiar with the transition to the Gym and are amazing at holding an adult’s hand to walk there. When we get in the Gym, we all know that we need to sit on a bench and take our shoes and socks off. We have been working on our balancing skills and are becoming very confident on different apparatus.
Our TAC PAC sessions with Sami have been lots of fun and the children’s engagement in these has been amazing. The children have definitely enjoyed the time to connect with adults and explore the items in the bags.
