Curriculum Overview

At Brownlow Primary School we have designed our own curriculum, in line with the National Curriculum objectives. We have had the freedom to write a curriculum that is creative, engaging and exciting for our children, whilst imparting essential knowledge. We believe less is more, prioritising key knowledge and skills that are retained and carefully built upon each year.

Our curriculum is designed to be inclusive, creative and ambitious. We want our children to develop a love of learning and a curiosity about the world, and therefore we have adopted the ‘Big Question’ approach to learning. This approach is planned using themes which drive the teaching and learning experience. It develops talk and informs assessment for learning. Our school values are deeply ingrained, threaded throughout the curriculum.

Our curriculum is constructed to ensure that essential subjects, phonics, reading, writing and maths are mastered. We also pride ourselves on providing a broad and balanced curriculum. We are passionate about music and PE and have achieved the Leicestershire Music Quality Mark, Silver Award and Gold Games Mark for sporting achievement.

At Brownlow, we use No Outsiders alongside our PSHE to explore the differences between people in the world and teach us to respect those differences.

We read a range of books which help us to understand that we need to make sure everyone is included no matter their gender, race, religion, age or disability.
